The WorkPlace has been awarded a $1.26 million grant by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to administer the Support Services for Veteran Families Program. Announced last Friday, the VA grant is for 12 months, renewable with satisfactory performance for two additional years.
The SSVF program will serve veterans in Fairfield, Litchfield and parts of New Haven counties. The Bridgeport-based WorkPlace has administered the SSVF program for the Veterans Administration since 2012.
“The [VA grant] process was competitive,” said WorkPlace President and CEO Joseph Carbone. “But our competitive edge was two-fold: the wide net of partners we have assembled over the years and the quality of our staff, especially the veterans that do so much with compassion and determination.”
The WorkPlace conducts comprehensive planning, and coordinates regional workforce-development policies and programs to prepare people for careers while working to strengthen the workforce for the region’s employers.
